Possible Redesign on Recharge Points.

I am new to recharging power points and had something happen that surprised me.

I had bought a bunch of power points. I had used them down to zero, which started the recharge period.

About four hours before the recharge was to happen, I happened to earn two power points -- a top 15 and bronze status (I think that is what they were for.)

I was naively thrilled, thinking I would now have 4 power points.

Of course, that didn't happen. And of course, I think it should have.

It seems to me that you want to reward monetary contributions to the Sift and quality contributions to the Sift. By structuring it the way it is currently. there is a slight disincentive built in.

What I would like to propose is that the system be changed. That the recharge period only begin once the account has been drawn down to zero, and that at the end of that time, you get your recharge power points regardless of whether you have reached max power points or not. Then you can buy at any time without referencing your recharge period, and power points achieved through $$ or Quality are always awarded.

I'm not a programmer, but I think that might be easy to program? Yes? No?

What does the community think?

I fully support this. Would the recharge timer then pause if you earned powerpoints for something else, and then resume when you reached zero again?

Actually, her proposal states that the countdown begins when you hit zero and is not interrupted. If you gain points through other means in the meantime, you still get your recharge points at the same time you would have had you stayed at zero.

I think either method would be fine, though bb's proposal sounds easier to program to me.

Oh, right, durr. My brain lapsed while writing that, and I was still using the 'if you have points when recharge hits they are wasted' mentality.

I don't know what you're suggesting, because I've just woken up and my head is el fuzzo, but I've been saying something similar for ages.

It aggravates me a tad when I get an extra power point for whatever reason, and then I don't get to them before my PP recharge. I was told that the point is to use them or lose them, but how I'm supposed to do that when I'm not aware I'm going to get a Top 15 vid etc, and I haven't checked, or I'm asleep when they recharge? I've lost so many for this reason!

Bitch over

For non charters, it would be easy to do it this way.

As soon as you hit 0 power points, the recharge timer is set and when it is completed, it pays out 1 power point regardless of how many points you have.

For charters, with a 2 power point top it would likely be prudent to have two recharge timers, one for each "normal" power point that triggered when at 1 and 0 respectively.

Obviously, if a timer is already running, then a new one would not be set.

I agree with bareboards on this. I am a cheapskate and haven't paid for anything, but I would be pretty disappointed if features that I paid cash for didn't give any benefit simply because of the timing of other free rewards given for positive contributions to the sift. Cash given is a positive benefit to the sift, good posts submitted are positive benefits to the sift... why should they step on each others toes?

Same thing happened to me last night. Made me stomp around the room and make noise. Six hours away I was to get my recharged points, somehow I was pretty fantastic the last couple days and got two power points.

I naively thought I was going to have four points.

BUNK ! total bunkness. I earned the two and waited patiently for my recharged ones to no avail.

*stomps some more*

@dag @lucky ..... any chance of making this change? It seems as if there is universal agreement.....

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I think it's a good idea- and you're right the current system is a bit discouraging.>> ^bareboards2:

@dag, all this talk about Videosift #5 reminded me of my yearning for this simple fix.....

The first points used would come from the award points, yeah?
